Earl Snellenberger has served as an adjunct instructor at his alma mater, the Herron School of Art and Design, since 2010. His major academic interest and expertise is figure drawing, and he teaches five courses in this field at Herron: Figure Drawing, Intermediate/Advanced Figure Drawing, Anatomy for Artists, Drawing for Animation, and Figure Drawing Concepts. He also teaches two Paper Engineering courses.
Snellenberger holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Herron. His M.F.A. degree is from Indiana University, Bloomington. He also holds an M.S. in Education degree from Butler University where his major concentration was curriculum development. He is Professor Emeritus of Art at University of Indianapolis where he taught for thirty-six years before retiring from full-time teaching. Visiting Professorships include Purdue University and Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
Earl Snellenberger is the co-author and illustrator of more than thirty published books for children with his wife, Herron graduate Bonita Chandler Snellenberger. In 1993 the Snellenbergers were the recipients of the annual Gold Medallion Award, presented by CEA -Bookseller's Association for illustrating Dinosaurs by Design, the association's Children's Book of the Year, authored by Dr. Duane Gish. Earl co-authored Discipline in the Art Room: An Approach to Planning a Successful Art Program with Herron graduate June E. Woodworth, former Art Consultant for the Indianapolis Public Schools.
