Minor in Studio Art and Technology

Requirements

A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 is required for courses used to fulfill the requirements for the studio art and technology minor.

Not all courses are regularly offered. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor to better plan their studies.

Through this minor, fine arts majors will become proficient with both the traditional methods, materials, and tools that have been a part of fine arts for centuries, plus new technologies applied to the creation of work that is uniquely expressive, and based on problem solving and real-world, hands-on experience.

REQUIRED COURSES

15 credits are required.

  • NEWM-N 115 Introduction to Multi-Device Web Development (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 102 Digital Media Imagery (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 202 Digital Story Telling (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 238 2D Animation (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 241 Stop Motion Animation (3 credits)
ELECTIVE COURSES

Three credits are required. Choose one of the following courses:

  • NEWM-N 201 Design Issues in Digital Media (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 215 Intermediate Multi-Device Web Development (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 243 Introduction to Digital 3D (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 253 Introduction to Digital Video (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 255 Introduction to Digital Sound (3 credits)

Through this minor, media arts and science majors will become proficient with a wide variety of skills related to drawing techniques, design thinking, artistic and visual forms, and visual communication design that complement the cutting-edge technology and digital media design and production courses of the media arts and science degree program.

  • HER-D 101 Drawing 1 or E 101 Beginning Drawing (3 credits)
  • HER-D 102 Drawing 2 (3 credits)
  • HER-S 201 Sculpture 1 (3 credits)
ELECTIVE COURSES

Three credits required. Choose one of the following:

  • NEWM-N 215 Online Document Development (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 253 Introduction to Digital Video (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 255 Introduction to Digital Sound (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 243 Introduction to Digital 3D (3 credits)
  • NEWM-N 201 Design Issues in Digital Media (General Education Core, 3 credits)

Six credits are required. Choose two of the following:

  • HER-D 251 Anatomy for Artists (3 credits)
  • HER-Q 261 Introduction to CNC (3 credits)
  • HER-S 202 Sculpture 2 (Sculpture 1 is a prerequisite, 3 credits)
  • HER-V 210 Foundations of Graphic Design (3 credits)
  • HER-D 230 Figure Drawing (3 credits)
  • HER-V 211 Typography (3 credits)
  • HER-V 251 Typography II (Typography I is a prerequisite, 3 credits)
