The Herron graduate student experience

Herron's graduate programs give students who are serious about extending their activities and approaches in new ways a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive learning environment. As a graduate student, you will be given every opportunity to explore your discipline and experiment with other techniques, materials and procedures.

Apply free week: Dec. 2-6

Herron School of Art and Design will waive application fees for all prospective graduate students who submit an application from Dec. 2 to Dec. 6.

Application timelines

M.A. PROGRAM IN ART THERAPY

Online applications for Herron's M.A. program beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year will open Sept. 5, 2024, with a deadline of Jan. 15, 2025.

M.DES., AND M.F.A. PROGRAMS

Online applications for Herron's M.Des., M.F.A. programs beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year will open Sept. 5, 2024, with a priority deadline for funding consideration of Jan. 15, 2025. In order to receive funding consideration, applicants must submit all supplemental materials by January 22, 2025. The final deadline to submit a completed online application is April 1, 2025. The final deadline to submit all supplemental materials is April 8, 2025. 

M.S. AND Ph.D. PROGRAMS IN MUSIC ARTS

Online applications for Herron's graduate degrees in Music Technology and Music Therapy programs beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year will open Sept. 5, 2024, with a priority deadline for funding consideration of Jan. 15, 2025. In order to receive funding consideration, applicants must submit all supplemental materials by January 22, 2025. The final deadline to submit a completed online application is April 1, 2025. The final deadline to submit all supplemental materials is April 8, 2025. 

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN DESIGN THINKING

The Graduate Certificate in Design Thinking program accepts online applications between the dates listed below.

  • Fall admission: Sept. – Aug. 10
  • Spring admission: May 1 – Dec. 11
