The 15-credit hour art history minor is for those looking to complement a major by studying art in its cultural contexts. Through the study of art history, you also develop skills in visual analysis, critical thinking, research, and writing. You learn to see history through the lens of art, and art from a range of historical, contextual, and theoretical perspectives.
Students interested in pursuing this minor must submit an online application stating their intent before enrolling in any courses. If you have already completed one of the courses listed below, you may be able to meet the minor requirement once you officially declare the minor.
A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 is required for courses used to fulfill requirements for the art history minor.
Not all courses are regularly offered. Students are encouraged to consult with their academic advisor to better plan their studies.
Six credits are required. These courses are recommended prerequisites for upper-level elective courses.
Nine credits are required. Six upper-level elective credits must be taken at Herron. Your path of study must include courses in at least two historical periods or subject categories. At least one 400-level course is recommended.
