Saturday School

Each semester's Saturday School classes are as follows:

  • Fall (6 sessions): Oct. 5, Oct. 12, Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 2, and Nov. 9.
  • Spring (6 sessions): March 1, March 8, March 15, April 5, April 12, and April 19.

Fall and spring classes are held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for students in grades 1 through 8, and from 1 to 4 p.m. for students in grades 9 through 12 and ages 18 and up.

All sessions will take place in Eskenazi Hall, 735 W. New York St., on the IU Indianapolis campus.

Fees and capacities are as follows:

  • Fall 2024: $200 per person, with a maximum of 15 participants.
  • Spring 2025: $200 per person, with a maximum of 15 participants.

To be enrolled, you must register by the following deadlines:

  • Fall: Registration is closed for fall 2024 classes
  • Spring: March 1

While completing the online registration form secures a student's spot in a summer session, enrollment is not guaranteed until full payment is received.

Scholarships: Scholarships are available for students in grades 1 through 12. To apply, complete our online scholarship application form.

Discounted rates:All sessions are discounted for IU affiliates (including alumni and current staff members) and Indiana educators. Please email sschool@iu.edu for the discount code.

Students in grades 4 or 8 who wish to "test out" of their current grade level and into a higher group should submit a portfolio of work to sschool@iu.edu for consideration. 

Herron Community Learning Programs will host culminating exhibitions of student work in HR 259 and 269 of Eskenazi Hall as follows.

  • Fall: Nov. 9, 2024
    • 11:30 a.m. – Noon (Grades 1–8)
    • 3:30 – 4 p.m. (Grades 9-12 and ages 18+)
  • Spring: April 19, 2025
    • 11:30 a.m. – Noon (Grades 1–8)
    • 3:30 – 4 p.m. (Grades 9-12 and ages 18+)

Private and group art lessons are available during the fall and spring semesters, with scheduling and pricing tailored to each student's individual needs. Please email sschool@iu.edu if you have any questions.

Eskenazi Hall is located on the IU Indianapolis campus at 735 W. New York St. Check-in for Herron's Community Learning Programs takes place immediately after entering the building's main doors on the west side.

Parking is available in the Sports Complex Garage (875 W. New York St.), adjacent to Eskenazi Hall, or on levels 5 and 6 of the Riverwalk Garage (245 University Blvd.), southwest of the building.

18+ Saturday Studio

Adults ages 18 and up are invited to Eskenazi Hall on Saturdays for a semester of studio investigations examining traditional and contemporary art-making approaches. Drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and 3-D construction will be among the processes and techniques introduced to participants.

Times: 1 – 4 p.m.
Cost: $200 per semester

18+ Fibers Class

Adults ages 18 and up are invited to Eskenazi Hall on Saturdays for a semester of studio investigations focusing on fiber arts. Students will learn batik and silk painting, two methods of applying dye and resist on cloth to create imagery or abstract designs. Additional topics such as natural dye, visible mending/embroidery, and upcycled garment construction/sewing machine basics may be discussed, depending on students’ interests.
