Butch Anthony: Art, Nature, and Intertwangelism
Self-taught artist, maker, and collector of found objects Butch Anthony’s exhibition explores his prolific and unique career. Known for compositions that intertwine fine art and design with objects found in nature—such as bones, insects, shells, and other artifacts—Anthony's work tells the stories of a rural American way of life through layered installations and has been exhibited in venues across the United States and internationally. His creations have been featured on CNN, NPR, American Pickers, and in notable publications like The New York Times, Garden and Gun, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, The Wall Street Journal, and Hyperallergic.
This exhibition opens September 11 is organized by the Museum of Wonder. Generous support for Butch Anthony's Intertwangelism at Herron Galleries is provided in part by a grant from the Efroymson Family Fund.
James Wille Faust: From Concept to Color
From Concept to Color presents a selection of sculpture and painting from the past three decades of James Wille Faust’s studio production. Faust is widely known for his abstract paintings and sculptures that employ geometric patterns and brilliant color to convey emotion and meaning, often with the use of illusionistic effects. While Faust’s use of vivid pigments has become a hallmark of his practice, From Concept to Color gives a glimpse into the artist’s unique methods, where the starting point for his art is often form, not color. Artworks in the show range from fully realized paintings and sculptural maquettes to pared down three-dimensional works.
This exhibition opens September 11 in the Marsh Gallery and is curated by Paula Katz, senior curator of art at the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites.
Allison Baker: Fever Dream
Showcasing work that reflects experiences often underrepresented in gallery and museum spaces, Baker’s Fever Dream opens August 19 and features new works in sculpture, collage, and video that explore the interplay of desire, domesticity, and social stratification. Baker is a first-generation college student with an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design known for work that explores the complexities of late-stage capitalism. Her monumental public sculptures highlight the aspirations and struggles of the American working class and working poor, aiming to humanize the ripple effects of poverty and challenge dominant narratives.
