INDIANAPOLIS -- Dr. Concetta Tomaino, whose groundbreaking research is celebrated in the feature film “The Music Never Stopped” starring Julia Ormond and J.K. Simmons, will attend a screening of the movie on March 26 at 6:00 p.m. in the Basile Auditorium at Herron School of Art and Design. After the film, Tomaino will answer questions from the audience. Tomaino is Herron’s 2025 Christel DeHaan Family Foundation Visiting Artist Lecturer.
Tomaino’s research focuses on the applications of music and neurobiologic rehabilitation. Her work has garnered numerous accolades, including the Award of Accomplishment from Music Therapists for Peace at the United Nations and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Association for Music Therapy.
Her work is credited with advancing the therapeutic use of music for patients with a variety of neurological conditions. A pioneer in the field of music therapy, Tomaino remains an active voice in her field and is currently executive director of the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function. Tomaino co-founded the IMNF with author and neurologist Oliver Sacks. In addition to being featured in “The Music Never Stopped,” their work on the restorative power of music was also featured in “Awakenings” starring Robin Williams and Robert De Niro.

Attendees of the March 26 event in the Basile Auditorium can connect with Tomaino after the 6:00 p.m. screening of “The Music Never Stopped” and the Q&A session during a reception held in the Grand Hall.
