Over the next few weeks, we're highlighting Herron students who recently applied their skills and coursework to summer internships throughout the Indianapolis area. Here's Madison Ide, a senior in photography, who reflects on her experiential learning opportunity that provided an inside look at nonprofit marketing.
HERRON: Where did you intern this summer?
MADISON IDE: I interned at Cornerstone Autism Center in Greenwood, Indiana. Cornerstone is a day clinic that provides one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis therapy to children diagnosed with autism.
Their official mission statement is to maximize those who struggle, embrace those who love, and fulfill those whose serve.
HERRON: What was your day-to-day like at Cornerstone Autism Center?
IDE: I worked at the main center in Greenwood on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. I also traveled to the other centers that are located in West Lafayette, Edinburgh, and another in Greenwood. Typically, I spent half of my day in my office sending emails, working on re-designing the company's brochure, and creating new business cards for the employees.
One of my biggest projects was taking portraits of their nearly 200 clients, so I spent a lot of time post processing and editing the photographs. The rest of my day either consisted of a marketing meeting, taking photos around the center and of the kids, or checking in with my supervisor, Morgan McClellan.
