INDIANAPOLIS — Herron School of Art and Design is pleased to present furniture-maker Sarah Marriage as the second speaker in the Phillip Tennant Furniture Artisan Lecture series, to take place at 5:30 p.m. on February 27.
Marriage is a Baltimore-based maker of fine furniture and other wooden objects. She studied architecture at Princeton University in New Jersey, and fine woodworking at The College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California. Her work has been shown at design fairs and galleries across the United States including Dwell on Design in Los Angeles, International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York, American Craft Show in Baltimore, and Pritam & Eames in East Hampton. She is a member of The Furniture Society Board of Trustees and was awarded the 2015 John D. Mineck Furniture Fellowship to support the creation of A Workshop of Our Own, opening in March 2017.
Marriage will discuss her pathway into furniture design by way of architecture and structural engineering. She will also talk about how her experiences in the craft industry have shaped her current undertaking—a collaborative woodshop for women and gender nonconforming craftspeople in Baltimore, Maryland.
This artist talk is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Basile Auditorium of Eskenazi Hall, 735 W. New York St. on the Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis campus.
