Visual thinking strategies

As an educator, my aim is to have my students learn not only technical skills in art, but also how to use art to problem solve in their other subjects or help with their visual understanding. Technical ability is important, but it's not the only thing to know, as many people underestimate the value of art in everyday life.

Most of the time, our world is visual, and the interpretation of images is a different mode of communication. Through art, we can connect a multitude of communities and cultures. Even with our different languages and customs, we can all be understood artistically. As we strive to become bilingual or polylingual, we should also strive to be visually lingual, especially in this age in which we live.

When I feel as though my students have embraced and recognized visual linguistics, I will feel as though I have succeeded.
